No Petticoats Here is a project that tells the stories of remarkable women of the First World War through song. The research, songwriting, composition and delivery took eighteen months and has taken me from Portsmouth to Pervijze and from Ulverston to Ypres by way of many museums, battlefields, private collections, libraries and research centres. I have also been fortunate to have the support of the women’s families and leading historians.
I have been touring with No Petticoats Here since 2015 and in July 2017 I was awarded funding by Arts Council England to develop the performance into a theatre concert show with a pre-recorded soundscape and stage props learning from audience feedback.
